Week 23 | Hamilton, Scotland

First letter from Elder Hulet

-Scarecrow festival in Bothwell this weekend! We 'just happeded' to be finding in that area to take some cool pictures

Finally getting back into the hot chocolate weather!

Moves call.. I am staying in Hamilton! Sister Watt is going to Corstorphine over in Edinburgh. I'm sad that she is leaving but it had to happen eventually. Now I have to like lead the area now, not too sure how that is going to work out.. But it’s a good area and the elders are still here when I have to phone them cuz I forgot which bus takes us where haha. It will be good.

Last week was fun! We have been hanging out with Lynn Marie a lot (any by "hanging out" I mean meeting with her cuz we are missionaries and that's what we do..). We are re-teaching her the lessons and she feeds us delicious food! Last week, sister watt and I bought stuff to make smores (or the Scottish equivalent, since they don’t have graham crackers or proper marshmallows). She had never had them before so it was really fun. We only had little candles and kitchen knives to roast them with but it still turned out good! She has two little kids and they are super cute! I took some pictures but it’s bad lighting.

We had our last little district meeting with our district before moves call. It was great. I loved that district! Our DL made us some jerk wings and after the meeting we all sat on the stage and ate them. It was great. Missionaries are awesome.

This is one of the best stories of the week. It's a good one. So...It has been really rainy the last little bit so we're finally starting to get into the wintery months here. There was a day in particular that it was just pouring on us all day and we had a tea appointment with Sis. Allan that night. All day I was craving some spaghetti and garlic bread so I was like trying to send sis Allan telepathic messages asking her to make it for us. Sis Watt laughed and me thinking it wouldn’t work. Then we showed up to sister Allan’s and right when I walked in the smell hit me and I turned to sister watt and said, "smell that?" all smug like! Haha I told sister Allan she was a blessing for me that day.

Another little tender mercy: we were chapping in this area for about 2 hours and the street was a wraparound street so when we finished one side we started on the other and it was getting late and dark and we were really tired and this old lady opened the door and right away invited us in. She told us she was catholic but had seen us chapping all night and hoped we would come to hers so she could let us sit down and give us something to drink. We talked a bit about her family and how God has helped her in her life. She is very catholic and not interested in changing but she was a really kind lady and I’m glad we got to meet her. Little things like that make the hours of chapping worth it I think.

Well I hope this week is great for everybody! We are going to all the LA's and members we have worked with to say goodbye from sister watt so it will be a busy few days for us!

Love, Sister Hulet

(From Roger: I asked Lindsey about Obedience)

Obedience is kind of a scary thing as a missionary, not gonna lie. But a cool thing that happened to me once was, I was sitting in district meeting (not really paying attention actually) and we were singing choose the right. and I was just talking about how I hated getting up so early and it was such a pain and how tired I was and then when we were singing I realized that the reason I was having such a hard time with it was because I was just 'doing' what was right and I wasn’t 'choosing' to. Which sounds stupid but it made a lot of sense for me. I was just waking up early cuz it was in the white hand book to get up early. But once I decided to get up on time cuz I wanted to, it made the mornings so much easier. I know that is kind of a lame story and example for times where I was a bit disobedient and slept in, but I am trying to apply the whole 'chose' the right to all the rules.... slowly but surely :)
