What a week!
So a while ago president Brown extended the "standard
of excellence" to our mission. It included a level of goals that we are
all basically expected to hit each week, or at least strive for. In it, the
total number of weekly lessons should be around 20. Which is a lot for our
mission. Sister Watt and I had tried pretty hard ever since then to hit that
goal with no such luck. Last week we sat down and decided we were gonna get 20
total lessons this week with 6 joint teaches! (Which are even harder to get
most weeks)... So we set out with high expectations this week and let me just
say, EVERYTHING went wrong. We had multiple days where every appointment we had
scheduled fell through! It was rough to say the least. Yet every night as we
checked in our numbers, we were basically on target. By Sunday night we had 4
more lessons to go when we got our final phone call from a guy to cancel his
lesson for that night. We were pretty frustrated but as we were leaving a meal
appointment sister watt stopped and we said a prayer in the street that we
could talk with people in the street to get our last couple of lessons in to
reach our goal. and guess what. we did! we hit 20 lessons! A lesson consists
of a good discussion where you talk about the gospel or some principle,
invite the person to do something, and then pray with them. So, they can be
kind of hard to get lessons on the street.(we didn’t hit our 'lessons with a
member present' goal yet, but we will!).. It was a good night and we were
both pretty excited! Yet, a wee bit scared cuz now we have a big week
to live up to EVERY week!
Last Tuesday after district meeting we went on exchanges
with the STL, or Sister Training Leaders. They are new leadership positions for
sisters on missions. They are like sister zone leaders/assistants. There is one
set in Ireland and one in Scotland, and they go on exchanges with all the
sisters each transfer, so they go on about 2 exchanges a week. crazy life. So I
got to go to Irvine with sister Ryan for a bit. She was cool. We taught some
good lessons to people and the members fed us like every meal, honestly even
breakfast! It was great! Irvine was very different from any place I’ve been so I
kind of missed Hamilton and sister watt! It was good though.
Wednesday night we went into Glasgow to a YSA talent show
where sister watt played the guitar and sang a song that she wrote. It was
brilliant! Everybody loved it! And some of the elders did some talents as well
which were funny and very good! It was a fun night! a bit weird to be in Glasgow
at night however and on the train ride home we were falling asleep cuz it was a
very long day of exchanging back, and train rides!
Very very hectic week! So much went wrong I cannot even
write it cuz it would take too long! (No power, broken down buses,
cancellations, broken washer, and much more) But it ended well and every time
something major went wrong we would just look at each other and be like,
"look satan, we're getting these 20 lessons!" haha and we did!
Love, Sister Hulet
