So I will start of with the baptism!
It went so amazing! Honestly it was brilliant! Us and the
elders had to go to the church pretty early to start the water heater and
slowly but surely fill the font. It was huge. A lot of water. I kept making the
hot rod joke, "man fonts are great for holding water" but nobody
really thought it was funny. But I thought it was HILARIOUS. So we set up the
service, and Marie and Victoria just wanted a little one so we had everyone
meet by the font rather than the chapel which is what they usually do. We had
a cd player for the opening and closing
hymns which Marie chose, and sister watt read a wee bit from the bible when
Jesus was baptized and then elder Phippen and I said the opening and
closing prayers and elder Thomas baptized them both. It was super simple but
the spirit was so strong! They were both confirmed by elder Phippen yesterday
in church and are now officially members! Ahhh it was so exciting! When
Victoria was changing afterwards she said, "my name is Victoria Devine,
and I’m a Mormon!" just like all those I’m a Mormon videos we showed
her... haha she is so great!
So, I should probably tell you about my week leading up to
the baptisms.
Multiple times last week our power went out. We had no like
working appliances or anything.. But we got it fixed and sorted.
Marie and Victoria called us during weekly planning and
asked if they could take us to lunch one day. We were like, YEAH! So they came
and got us and took us to this little cafe they like to go to with two of
Maries kids she minds, Lucas and Eve. They were so cute, and the food was
amazing! I will be sure to send some pictures from that!
On Wednesday we had a zone conference in Glasgow where we
got a lot of good direction from our leaders, including pres and sister brown.
Afterwards, pres brown was coming to Motherwell to do Marie and Victoria’s
baptismal interviews, so sister brown told sister watt and I that they could
just drive us home after the conference. We accepted obviously and didn’t think
too much about it, until we were in the car on the way home and president brown
asked us what we were planning on doing in-between then and the baptismal
interviews. We said "chapping a bit and then some dinner" then he
said "alright, we'll join you". And sister Watt and I gave each other
horrified faces in silence in the back seat... it was one of the scariest
moments of my life! But... we picked a street and started chapping. Luckily, we
split the street, sister watt and pres brown went on one side, and myself and
sister brown on the other. We actually got a few lessons out of it and it was a
pretty good little "Power Chap"! Afterwards we didn’t have much time,
so the Browns took us to KFC for dinner! It was super nice of them, and it was
pretty fun to just be hanging out with the president and his wife all night
haha. The interviews obviously went AMAZING and President Brown loved Marie and
Victoria, and they loved him. So, Friday night we got a text from him asking
when they're baptism was at, and him and sister brown showed up! They are
honestly the greatest people! Marie and Victoria felt so touched he came all
the way from Edinburgh for them. That night Marie took us and the elders out to
dinner at a buffet place that she took sister watt and I before. It was
delicious!
We got to do a lot of service this past week, I love
service! All in all, great week!
Love,
Sister Hulet
President Brown wrote about the experience with Lindsey and Sister Watt in his letter this week it said:
Following the Glasgow conference on Thursday Sister
Brown and I accompanied Sister’s Watt and Hulet to their area and did some
chapping with them for a wee while before I was scheduled to conduct two
baptism interviews. Although we didn’t have too much time it was nevertheless a
good experience and helped me realise that there are indeed some good people
out there – people with sound moral values and a sense of community – people
who care about their families and loved ones – people who believe in honesty
and integrity. It reaffirms my already strong belief that there are many of
God’s children who are being prepared for the message of the gospel.
