Week 2: Scotland

This week went by so fast. I cannot even explain it! in the mtc they told us that the days go by slow but the months fly by! It is so true! i have almost been out a month (only a couple weeks in scotland) but it feels like a week. if that! We finally started getting settle into our flat then the landlord came over and is going to have someone paint all the walls and put new carpet in! So.. that is going to be fun figuring that out and working around that schedule.

We have been visiting the McDonalds, and i think i told you a little about them last week but they are close friends with Pres Brown and so missionaries have been visiting them for the past 50 ish years. They are, as pres brown says, 'unbaptized mormons'. They are such strong believers of christ, they live an amazing life, and have read the book of mormon twice and know it is true! I cannot explain the feelings i got last night when they told us that they just can't be baptized because they made such a huge promise to god and to the other members of the church of scotland when they both became elders. It is so hard! They know its true and they love the gospel but baptism is just not something they can do at the time being and yet missionaries keep trying! i feel like we're getting so close! we're even going to start teaching their sone david and his son Allen next week and hopefully something clicks! Either way, they are amazing people and i love talking to them, they are sooo funny! i laugh so hard everytime we see them!

It was sister Galbraiths 21st birthday last week so we got her a cheesecake and had a small birthday party for her! Also, the elders who lived in the flat before us left us sooo much chocolate :) it has been great! Elder Lever and Elder Celestini ( he is from italy and the poor guy is just a month out trying to learn english and understanding the scottish accents! he's doing really good though! )

We have been doing so much walking! I cannot explain to you the joy i felt this morning while putting on my nikes to head out! They are so comfy and i just love them more than words can describe! And my hoodie is just so great! Dresses are really starting to upset me having to wear everyday, but that's not going to be something i can change so, i'm over it. OH! we finally got heat in our flat so i can also go back to sleeping in shorts and a tshirt which i am just too happy about!

There is a lady called Audrey in the ward, and her and her parents are from South Africa, and she told me that Hulet (spelled differently) means Sugar People in Africa and so everytime she see's me she yells HULET! so... i feel kind of special, but i dont know what sugar people are so i'm not sure if i should be excited or upset. Audrey is my favorite person right now. She has 2 daughters that she has adopted, one is 15 and the other is 4. They are way cool girls. She just had surgery on her spine and it has caused her to lose feeling in her leg so she cannot drive which has been a big challenge for her but she is just such a cool person that she just keeps working and cracking jokes! She said she hates how scotland is so bland so she painted the outside of her house bright purple and the inside is no different with bright colored tiles all up the wall to the furry neon pillows on her couch! She also gives us cake all the time so... she's alright in my book :)

We had our first zone meeting the other day and we had to catch a train to Dundee where the elders met us and walked us the 45 minute walk to the steak center. We got to talk with president and sister brown about life. A cool thing we are doing now is really pushing mormon.org.uk! Since the Book of Mormon play is in london now, the church is adversising EVERYWHERE! It is crazy! on busses, in tube stations, and even in the back of the plays program haha! So we have been telling everyone about the website and they are promoting really cool member videos you guys should go check out cuz they are all really cool!
Well I hope all is well and everyone has a fantastic week!!

Love, Sister Hulet
