I have had my first total missionary expirences this past week and it is just crazy to think about! They both involved finding via street contacting, which is not my favorite but, apparently it works! so first off, we do a think during planning every night called whowhatwhenwhere. and it is when we ponder a specific person the lord will put in our path the next day, where and when we will meet them, and what we will teach them. I just want you to know that i HATED this when i first got out here. like i just thought it was so weird and i felt uncomfortable saying anything cuz i was afraid i would be wrong about it.. but then i realized that we dont find the person everyday, and it is just a process we do to help us focus more on a person, and a purpose rather than to just mindlessly stop people in the street. So i have two simple stories of why i quickly got over this hate.
1: Last week we were walking down the road to the bus station where we were to catch a but at a certain time to make it down to burn island to visit members and less actives with Donna. We were kind of in a hurry so didnt stop too many people. But then for some reason we stopped a guy and started talking to him. His name is sean and he believed in science and not god. We had a good long talk with him and gave him a BOM and a mormon.org card. He said he wanted to learn more! so we got his address and his number. Sadly, he was in Glenrothes! which is the elders area! We were really sad but atleast he wanted to learn more from somebody. On sunday we started talking about him with the elders at church, and turns out they had an AMAZING lesson with him and the whole time he kept asking, why me? why did the sisters stop me? so the elders said they would ask us and as we started thinking about it more we realized how crazy it was that we stoped him. He was our whowhatwhenwhy for the day! which on its own is awesome because he fit the description perfectly and we've never had that happen before so it was great! also, while we were talking to him, we got a text but didnt read it until after, and it was from donna telling us that our appointements in burntisland fell through, so because we talked to him, we missed our bus, which was a good thing because we would have been on that hour bus ride when we recieved the text telling us not to come, so it would have been a wast of our whole afternoon!
2: Yesterday, we were walking to visit a less active and stopped a guy in the street. His name is Gordon and he was very friendly, and when you find very friendly people, you get very excited and the lessons just start flowing! ALso, it is kind of hard to work well with 3 people, but this was just very smooth and great! We taught him the first lesson right then and there basically, and he kept saying he didnt know if he believed in god, so we all just started sharing personal experiences and talking to him about faith and how the fact of knowing there is a god brings peace to our lives and it turned into a lesson on peace, and he then kept saying "oh i've never thought about it like that" and things along those lines which are great to hear from people! THEN he said, "well is there any material you have or a way i can learn more?" and we were all like YES! so we go to get his address so we can set up an appointment and he lives in edinburgh!! we were sooo sad! But we got his info and refered him to the elders over there and he is excited to learn more! after walking away we realized he was our whowhatwhenwhere of the day and it was just so awesome! We are all a bit upset that we keep finding these amazing people and having to give them up to other missionaries though, but i guess we can plant seeds and take some responsibility (i'm going to anyway :) )
So last week for P day it was really fun! We got some icecream and walked along the beach. just keep in mind i'm in scotland so.. probably not what you were picturing as ice cream on the beach. it was rainy and very very windy, but hey, there was a bit of sun! We then met up with the elders from our district and went to Links market! it was sooo fun! LInks market is like a big deal here in kirkcaldy, apparently its like a few hundred year old tradition. Today, it is basically like a street fair just along the water and being missionaries, we couldnt even ride any of the rides. which sucked. but it was still really fun! Elder Celestini (from italy) has never seen anything like it before so he was like a little kid running around all big eyed! and he had to eat like all of the food so he had burgers and hot dogs and crepes and candy! It was so funny! He then wanted to try all the "easy games" they had and we explained to him how they are tricks, that look easy but steal your money. he was sooo mad! he was like so confused as to why they would try to get your money! It was a really fun day!
Quck thought about the food: So people keep asking more about the food and, i love it! like honestly i love everything here! in the members homes we eat, meat carrots and potatoes. And its all just been soo good! The most common thing is Mince and Tattys! which is just sooo good! Also, the Lutkin's are members that have fed us the past couple of sundays and they make big roasts, and dumplings, and potatoes! But potatoes are always in the roasts, or with the mince but then they serve potatoes on the side as well! Good think i love them! Also, i am obsessed with Angels Delight! it is this stuff that you mix with milk, for only like 30p and it is so tasty! There are different flavors, i love strawberry and chocolate! My favorite lunch time food is buttered roll with chicken tikka! soooo good! Here, for lunch they just go to bakeries and choose their roll, and choose their filling, then the worker will ask "butter and salad?" and you say yeah! they they butter the roll, throw on the chicken tikka, and add lettuce, cucombers, and oninons! it is just so delicous! chicken tikka is like a curry type thing that i can't get enough of!
Anyway, i hope all is well and everybody has a fantastic week! Sorry, i will try to get letters written today, i have had no time so be patient, they will come!
Love, Sister Hulet
